Don’t miss this opportunity to atlas in unchartered territory! As at the beginning of December 2009 the one degree square 27S-23E had only eight field sheets submitted for a total of 144 pentads! So come on atlasers, let’s get stuck into this area and add some better information. This is an area of Kalahari Desert so the birds will be very interesting. Not even the town of Kuruman has been atlased, so there is plenty to do.
Route: N14 from Johannesburg through Vryburg and Kuruman. Red Sands is 15 kilometres west of Kuruman on left-hand side.
Accommodation: Chalets will be booked at the Red Sands Country Lodge just outside Kuruman on the N17. There are varying types of units that can accommodate singles, couples or two people sharing. Camping is also available.
Cost per person: R330 per night shared accommodation (two rooms one single bed, one double bed) or R500 per person per night single tariff. Camping: R70 per person per night.
