The Poplak’s, longstanding club members, have invited us to visit their farm again. The Devon region has been largely overlooked by birders but with habitats comprising Highveld grassland, seasonal wetlands and farmland, may be considered a birding rich area. Oenie says owls are plentiful on the farm and both Blue and Barrow’s (White-bellied) Korhaan may be found in this area.
Route: Take the N12 Benoni/Witbank freeway to Delmas/Bapsfontein off-ramp. Continue towards Delmas on R50, bypass Delmas and after 11km turn right on to R548. Travel for 23km along R548 and entrance to farm is on the left (approx 1 hour 15 minutes drive from Randburg). Braai facilities will be available.
